Welcome to our Cathedral!

Our Cathedral is named in honor of the icon of the Mother of God "Joy of All Who Sorrow". The Cathedral's feast day is celebrated on November 6th. There are many auxiliary structures at the Cathedral that are vital to the life of the parish.

Daily Services (non-Feast day): 8:00AM - Divine Liturgy and at 6:00PM evening services: Vespers/Matins. On Feast Days the Divine Liturgy may begin later or there could be two liturgies. Also, during Great Lent, there are special services with varying schedules. All these services are indicated in the monthly schedule located here on our site or on a printout which can be obtained at the Candle Stand.
 
A Moleben (service of intercession) or panihida (memorial service for the reposed) may be served by making prior arrangements with the priests.
 
According to Church rules, confession for faithful who wish to receive the Holy Gifts must be heard the night before they wish to commune. Typically, confession is conducted during the evening services.
 
For any needs such as baptisms, weddings, funerals, visitation of the sick at home or at a hospital, molebens, panihidas, blessing of a house or car, etc., please contact the cathedral clergy directly.

The operation of the Cathedral is administered through the Parish Council and responsibility of day-to-day operations falls on our Cathedral Warden ("Starosta") – Nick Buick. The Parish Council is selected at the Annual General Meeting of the Parish which is usually held in the spring. At this meeting,  various other pertinent operational and financial issues of the Cathedral are decided. A Revisionary Commission audits all finances of the Cathedral.
 
All faithful who regularly attend the Cathedral are invited to become acting members of the Parish, which gives them the right to vote at the Annual General Meeting of the Parish or to be selected for any of the positions on the Parish Council.

There are two schools that operate at the Cathedral:

Sts. Cyrill and Methodius Russian High School - A school for supplemental education, where the Law of God, Russian Grammar, Russian Literature, Russian Geography and other subjects are taught which give our students an opportunity to fully acquaint themselves with our Orthodox Faith and Russian Culture. Student graduate the High School at 16 years of age. Classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursday from 4:10 PM to 6:00 PM and on Saturdays from 9:00AM to 1:30PM. Saint John of SF Orthodox Academy - a school with an English language curriculum in which special attention is applied in the overall education of the student. In addition to the full academic courses as prescribed by American schools, the Law of God is taught and the school calendar follows the Church calendar. Classes are held from Monday through Friday 8:3 AM to 3:30 PM. Office Telephone: (415) 221-3484.
 
The Cathedral has a bookstore. In our bookstore, not only can you purchase books of spiritual content, but also children's books, crosses, incense, icons and other items associated with our spiritual life. The bookstore is located on the corner of 26th Avenue and Geary Blvd.

On Feast days our services are especially adorned with beautiful singing. The Director of the Archbishop's Choir is Vladimir V. Krassovsky (650) 355-6917. Choir rehearsals are held on Tuesday nights (except during the Summer season).  The Sts. Cyrill and Methodius Choir sings regularly on the early Sunday Liturgies. All those wishing to sing to the glory of God are invited to help our choirs.
 
The Sisterhood of our Cathedral strives in adorning the church, feeding of the numerous visitors on Feast days and in the collection of funds for the Cathedral. Anyone wishing to volunteer to help the Sisterhood should contact the cathedral warden.
