[December 6, 2017]
  • On November 6, the Holy Virgin «Joy of All Who Sorrow» Cathedral feast day, Archbishop Kyrill awarded Priest Sergey Kiryukhin with the kamilavka. Alexander Belyarchik’s feast day photos can be seen on the Western American Diocese website photo gallery. Archbishop Kyrill extends his gratitude to all who congratulated him, as well as presented him with gifts, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his episcopacy. Vladika also thanks the cathedral Sisterhood who fed more than 500 clergy, parishioners and faithful on November 6.
  • Following the feast day, Liturgy parishioner Katherine Koloboff was presented with the Archbishop’s Award for her many years of labors ensuring insurance coverage for both the cathedral and the clergy and employees of the parish.
  • On Tuesday, November 7, the Centennial of the bloody and tragic Bolshevik Revolution was observed at Holy Virgin Cathedral in San Francisco with a Memorial Service served for all of those who suffered at the hands of the godless authorities – all the clergy of the Western American Diocese participated in the service.
  • Nadia Triantafillidis offered a donation in memory of her husband, the ever-memorable cathedral protodeacon, Fr. Nicholas Traintafillidis, two beautiful vigil lamps for the main cathedral iconostasis. The lams were installed in time for our feast day. Thank you!
  • On November 13 the Holy Church marks the memory of Saints Spyridon & Nicodemus, the Prosphora-bakers of the Kiev Caves. The cathedral clergy and parishioners of Holy Virgin Cathedral would like to thank the women volunteers for their labor of faith and love in baking thousands of prosphoras a year for the Divine Liturgy. The phosphor baking group welcomes any help: if anyone is interested in volunteering, please see the cathedral warden, Mr. Nick Buick.
  • In November a number of special guests visited Holy Virgin Cathedral: the head of the Antiochian Archdiocese of North America, Metropolitan Joseph; Archimandrite Alexis of Odessa’s (Ukraine) Iveron Monastery – Fr. Alexis served at the cathedral and offered a homily; the Abbott of St. Andrew’s Skete on Mt. Athos, Fr. Ephraim, and a few Athonite brothers.
  • Special collections for the St. Herman West Youth Conference will be held on three consecutive Sundays (December 3 & 17) in all parishes of the Western American Diocese. Our parish has been challenged to collect at least $1,000.00 for the work of the diocese's Youth Department, please be generous! This year's conference will be held in Seattle.
  • Archpriest Peter Perekrestov will be traveling to Europe on December 5-15. He will be taking the small travel reliquary and belt of St. John to Zurich and then traveling on to Russia for church-related matters. During his absence please contact Archpriest Serge Kotar or Priest Sergei Kiryukhin for your pastoral needs.
