  • On Friday, September 8, His Grace Bishop Victor of Arsiz (vicar of the Diocese of Odessa) visited the Holy Virgin Cathedral. He served the Divine Liturgy with the cathedral dean and then presented the cathedral with a special blessing – relics of ten different saints. Bishop Victor is a member of the Ukrainian Church’s (Moscow Patriarchate) Synodal Committee for Canonizations.
  • A Panikhida was served by Archpriests Peter Perekrestov and Serge Kotar on Saturday, September 23, on the occasion of Archbishop Anthony’s (Medvedev) 17th repose anniversary.
  • On Saturday, September 30, the Mother of God in Her Hawaii Iveron Myrrhstreaming Icon visited Holy Virgin Cathedral. Following the greeting of the Icon at 3:30 pm an Akathist was chanted by the gathered faithful – the chanting was led by Archpriest Sergei Kotar. The Icon was in the church throughout the Vigil and the line to venerate it did not cease. Everyone present was anointed by myrrh from the Icon after the Akathist and the Gospel reading at the Vigil.
  • The second anniversary of the repose of the cathedral Protodeacon Nicholas Triantafillidis fell on Monday, October 2. On Sunday, October 1 the cathedral dean served a Panikhida on this occasion. May Fr. Nicholas rest with the saints!
  • On Sunday, October 8 the 90th birthday of one of Holy Virgin Cathedrals senior and most active parishioners, Konstantin Musihin, was marked. On this day he was bestowed by Archbishop Kyrill with a special Diocesan Award (Gramota). On behalf of the clergy and parishioners of Holy Virgin Cathedral, we congratulate our faithful parishioner!
  • During the course of September and October, special collections were taken at the cathedral in light of the calamities in Texas (hurricane), Mexico (earthquakes) and Northern California (fires).  Thanks to the generosity of our parishioner thousands of dollars were collected for the St. Vladimir Church in Houston, Holy Trinity Monastery in Mexico City and the Saints Peter and Paul Church in Santa Rosa. Thank you for your generous help. Collections for those who lost their homes in Santa Rosa, as well as prayers, continue at this time.
  • On Saturday, October 14, the feast of the Protection of the Holy Virgin, our parish celebrated the heavenly protector of church chanters and singers – St. Roman the Sweetsinger. At the Liturgy, the cathedral clergy was joined by the well-known choir director, teacher, and professor from Kiev – Archpriest Dimitri Bolgarski. Following the Liturgy, a special service to the Theotokos was served and the cathedral choir directors, Vladimir Krassovsky and John Buff and their cathedral singers, were greeted.
  • On Friday, October 20, our long-time cathedral archpriest, Fr. Serge Kotar, marked both his namesday and 70th birthday. On behalf of the clergy, parishioners and the Holy Virgin community, we greet Fr. Serge with his jubilee and thank him for all his labors in the Lord's vineyard and our cathedral. Many years!
  • The St. John of San Francisco Academy will hold its annual gala fundraiser on Sunday, October 22, at the St. John the Baptist Serbian Church in San Francisco. Full details are available on the school website.
  • The feast day of the cathedral's side altar, dedicated to St. John of Kronstadt, will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 1. Liturgy is scheduled for 9:00 am.
