  • The head of the Missionary Department of the Diocese of Mukachevo (Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Moscow Patriarchate), Archpriest Victor Palosh, visited San Francisco from May 8-13. Father Victor came to venerate the relics of St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco and to get acquainted with Bay Area church life. He served the Liturgy at Holy Virgin Cathedral on the feast of Mid-Pentecost and presented the clergy with a gift, a liturgical Gospel.
  • On May 12 Archpriest Peter Perekrestov and pilgrims safely returned from Jerusalem to San Francisco. In his sermon on Sunday, May 14, Father Peter shared his reflections on the pilgrimage and relayed the greeting of His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem and All Palestine to the faithful. He also noted that at the Tomb of Christ he personally read all the commemoration slips given to him by parishioners and delivered all donations to the Gethsemane and Mt. of Olives Convents and the Orthodox School in Bethany.
  • The annual Ft. Ross Pilgrimage will take place on Monday, May 29 (Memorial Day). Divine Liturgy at the fort chapel is scheduled for 9:30 am, followed by a procession to the cemetery and a picnic lunch at the Kazan church property in Guerneville.
  • Cathedral parishioners, please not the special service schedule for the feast of Pentecost (Sunday, June 4): early Liturgy will begin at 7:00 am, late Liturgy – 9:00 am.
  • On the feast of Ascension the cathedral had a guest celebrant at the early Liturgy, Archimandrite Pimen (Matsola) of the Archangel Michael Monastery of the Khust Diocese (Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Moscow Patriarchate). Father Pimen became totally blind at the age of 15, but leads an active life: he is the monastery dean, works with pilgrims, writes books and knows the services by heart. On the feast of Ascension Fr. Pimen offered the feastday homily.
  • St. Kyrill and Methodius High School graduation ceremonies will take place on Saturday, June 3. The Thanksgiving Molieben is scheduled for 10:00 am.
