  • An icon of St. Tikhon of Zadonsk with a dedication on the back: "To His Grace Bishop Tikhon from the St. Elias Skete on Mt. Athos, 1930," was spotted by a Holy Virgin Cathedral parishioner on Ebay. Vladika Tikhon was the bishop of San Francisco from 1930-1962. The icon was immediately purchased but the cathedral warden, Mr. N. Buick and is now in the cathedral altar.
  • On Sunday, January 3, His Eminence Archbishop Kyrill ordained Deacon Sergei Korneichuk to the priesthood. Fr. Sergei is assigned to the Protection of the Holy Virgin Parish in Palo Alto.
  • Archpriest Peter Perekrestov extends his gratitude to all the kind parishioners for their kind support and prayers after his health incident on January 16.
  • The Parish Council decided to repair the collapsing wooden fence on the cathedral playground for children and replace it with a cinderblock one. Work on the new support wall should be completed by February 15.
  • One of the cathedral's senior parishioners and active member of the Bay Area's Russian community (Russian Center, scouts…), Valentina Klestoff, passed away on January 21 at the age of 97. The last few years she lived in the cathedral senior housing building and communed weekly at the early Liturgy. May she rest with the saints!
  • For the first time a clergyman of the Holy Virgin Cathedral, Archpriest Serge Kotar, and a group of young people from the parish participated in the annual Walk for Life (January 23) in San Francisco.
  • On Sunday, January 24, Archpriest Josiah Trenham and a group of over 100 parishioners of St. Andrew's Orthodox Church in Riverside, California, took part in the early Divine Liturgy at Holy Virgin Cathedral. Fr. Josiah offered the homily, noted the significance of Holy Virgin Cathedral's Orthodox witness on the West Coast and presented the parish with a gift of $1,000.00.
